Veteran Funding Options

The GI Bill® provides a number of education benefits for service members and veterans. New Horizons Knoxville provides a variety of training programs that qualify for these benefits. This means you can get started on a new career path with little to no out of pocket expenses. Student Loans

If the above options are not available to you, then you may consider investing in a student loan. New Horizons Knoxville recommends consulting with your banking institution or financial advisor to help figure out the best student loan option for you. Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Funding

The TAA program was designed to help workers who lost their previous job due to foreign outsourcing. The TAA program includes job training benefits that may be used at New Horizons Knoxville. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Funding

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides job training benefits for adults, dislocated workers and youth to help gain skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment. Use Your Post 9/11 GI Bill® Benefits at New Horizons Knoxville | Chattanooga | Tri-Cities

New Horizons Knoxville has been approved for veterans training to those who qualify for Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits. If you are looking to upgrade your skills or begin a career in Information Technology, then consider using your benefits at New Horizons Knoxville.

Do I Qualify?

If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after September 10, 2001 and:

  • Are still on active duty
  • Are an honorably discharged Veteran
  • Have a service-connected disability

Then you may be eligible to take advantage of Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits.

What Benefits Am I Eligible to Receive?

The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides education benefits that cover a percentage of tuition and fees, depending on how long you have served in the military. Tuition and fees are paid directly to New Horizons Knoxville.

Individuals serving an aggregate period of active duty
after September 10, 2001 of:

Monthly Housing Stipend:

This portion of the benefit is paid directly to the veteran each month he or she is enrolled in classes. The housing stipend is based on the institution's zip code.

Books and Supplies:

Veterans are eligible for up to $1,000 in the form of an annual stipend for books and supplies. This payment is made directly to the student.

Post 9-11 GI Bill® Application Process

To apply for your Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits, you will need to collect the following information:

  • GI Bill® Benefit Application
  • Form DD214: Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty
  • Dates and service status for each period of military service
  • Number of months of eligibility remaining for benefits under one or more VA education programs
  • Information Pertaining to participation in the "$600 Buy-up Program"
  • GI Bill® Kicker Contract (if participated)
  • Transcripts for all periods of post-secondary education
  • Banking information to allow for direct deposit of benefits

New Horizons Knoxville Application Process

Your New Horizons Knoxville career consultant will review and assist you through the New Horizons Knoxville application process to help kick start your way to a new or advanced IT career. We will help you select and customize the program that is right for you.

You will need to provide the New Horizons Certifying Official a copy of your VA GI Bill® Certificate of Eligibility and your Application for VA Education Benefits (VA Form 22-1990) to include, but not limited to:

  • DD Form 214 (Member 4) for all periods of active duty service (excluding active duty for training)
  • DD Form 2384, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) if applying for Chapter 1606
  • Copies of orders if activated from the guard/reserves

Transfer of Credits Disclosure

Credits earned at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City may not transfer to another educational institution. Credits earned at another educational institution may not be accepted by New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City. You should obtain confirmation that New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City will accept any credits you have earned at another educational institution before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement. You should also contact any educational institutions that you may want to transfer credits earned at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City to determine if such institutions will accept credits earned at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City prior to executing an enrollment contract or agreement. The ability to transfer credits from New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City to another educational institution may be very limited. Your credits may not transfer and you may have to repeat courses previously taken at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Johnson City if you enroll in another educational institution. You should never assume that credits will transfer to or from any educational institution.
